Auditions for Walter Johnson Choirs for SY10-11 will be held over the next few weeks in Room 174 in the Music Suite at WJ (6400 Rock Spring Drive, Bethesda, MD 20814) according to the schedule below. No audition is necessary for Chorus A/B (Chorus 1).

All current Eighth graders will be enrolled in Chorus A/B. Students currently in grade 10-12 should contact Miss H.-C. for a vocal audition appointment. Please see specific requirements for each ensemble below.

Audition schedule & requirements

Advanced Choir (AKA AC, Concert Choir, or Chorus 3)

Individual Vocal Audition by appointment:

· Range check/vocalises

· Sing a very brief vocal solo excerpt (unaccompanied, can be from a choral piece previously performed)

· Perform some melodic and rhythmic sight reading passages.

POP FLY (AKA Chorus 2, formerly known as Gospel/Show Choir)

Individual Vocal Audition by appointment:

· Sing brief vocal solo in a pop, broadway, jazz, gospel, country or R&B style.

DANCE audition

· ALL DANCE auditions to be held beginning at 2:30pm on June 1 and June 4 in Room 174 (you must arrive before 3:30 but you need not be present at both days' auditions)

Madrigals (AKA Chamber Singers, current Walter Johnson students only)

Individual Vocal Audition by appointment: (see advanced choir audition for requirements)
Ensemble Auditions (for blend, part independence, and intonation)

· Students will sing a selected Madrigal piece with various combinations of people. Copies of the Madrigal audition selection will be available in Room 174 after May 23.

· To be held during lunch in Room 174 on June 1, 4, and 5. All ensemble auditions sessions are mandatory (unless you are currently attending another school in which case alternate arrangements must be made in advance). Please bring your lunch and be prompt.
