Thank you to all for auditioning!
It was extremely difficult to narrow down the list of our allotted 30 participants. In the end, most decisions came down to balance and stage presence, and in several cases seniority (in both high school and in the chorus program). I will contact alternates if the director has a need for more singers from WJ (no guarantees, but I would love to give more opportunities to all our talented singers)

Footloose Cast
These decisions were incredibly difficult. We had 110 people audition and thus couldn’t cast over 40 very talented students. If cast members do not fulfill their contractual obligations, alternates will be contacted. Please, please consider auditioning for future S*T*A*G*E productions and also getting involved in the crew for Footloose. The show has complex lighting and sets and the crew would appreciate enthusiastic new members. If your name appears below, please be at rehearsal after school today in the choral room (174).

Auditions for WJ Choirs for rising 9th through 12th graders are coming
right up!
For current middle schoolers who participate in their middle school
choir, the audition dates for Pop Fly (Gospel/Show choir) and advanced
choir (Chorus 3 and 2 respectively) are May 29 & June 2 from 3-5:30pm at
Walter Johnson High School 6400 Rock Spring Drive, Bethesda, MD 20814.
You need not attend both dates, just one. Be prepared to wait - first
come first served. No audition is required to Chorus (Chorus 1A/B).
Requirements for current WJ students:
WJ students, e-mail me at misshc@walterjohnson.com or come by Room 174
to arrange a vocal audition time. If you are auditioning for Pop Fly
(Gospel/Show Choir) you must attend one of the after school dance
audition sessions (May 29th and June 2).

Audition schedule & requirements
Advanced Choir
* Individual Vocal Audition (Middle Schoolers: see dates above,
High Schoolers, by appointment):
* Students will be expected to sing a very brief vocal solo
(unaccompanied)
1 Students will be expected to perform
some melodic and rhythmic music reading examples as well as some basic
musicianship exercises
Gospel/Show Choir
* Individual Vocal Audition (Middle Schoolers: see dates above,
High Schoolers, by appointment):
* Students will be expected to sing a very brief vocal solo
(unaccompanied) in a pop, broadway, jazz, gospel, or R&B style.
* DANCE audition
* To be held starting at 3pm on May 29 and June 2 in Room 174 (The
Music Suite) at WJHS
Madrigals (auditions for current Walter Johnson students ONLY)
* Individual Vocal Audition by appointment: (see advanced choir
for requirements)
0 Ensemble Auditions (for blend, part independence, and
intonation)
* Students will sing "Dainty, Fine Sweet Nymph" in various
combinations, come to Room 174 for copies and to sign up.
1 To be held during lunch on 29, 30, and
June 2
* All ensemble auditions sessions are mandatory (any immovable
conflicts must be registered in advance). Please bring your lunch and
be prompt.

The year is winding down and several big events are on the horizon. Firstly, the Annual Spring Concert
will be held on May 23rd in our new auditorium. In additon to this, May 2nd the WJ 50th year
celebration and and opening ceremony for our new auditorium, during which several ensembles and groups
will perform.

Welcome to the new semester. The end of the Winter Concert turns our attention to Festivals.
Keep using the playlist to practice your festival peices. Madrigals and Gospel/Show will be performing next week
for the middle schools to educate them on WJ music. You can now vote online
for the new name of the Gospel/Show Choir.

The annual cheesecake fundraiser has begun. You may order cheesecakes online
here. I encourage everyone to become involved to support our
cause. A large portion of the profit will go towards future trips. Also, students auditioning for
All-State should be practicing with the tracks provided
online if they want to strengthen
their chances.

Welcome to the new school year. I am very excited about the new year and all the opportunities that it
brings. As you know our spring trip is to Orlando, Florida! Initial deposits for the trip are being
collected and are due no later than September 22. I hope that everyone is able to come. In other news,
practice tracks will be uploaded shortly. Check back for updates. Madrigals...if you do not already have a
costume, I encourage you to look for costumes at the
TudorShoppe.

The summer is winding down and a new school year approaches quite rapidly. If you are in a different choir
than the one you registered for, Miss H-C already made the chnages for you. If you want to double check
that you were not forgotten you can contact her here. Students are
encouraged to keep their voices active, but not overworked. Try MusicTheory.net
for sight reading practice. Madrigals should have obtained a summer packet and be preparing for our busy
start of school. I encourage you to look for costumes at the TudorShoppe.
